Top restaurant lists offer welcome additions to your collection of “must-visit spots.” And finally, for pasta-lovers everywhere, the wait for the best Italian restaurant is over.

50 Top Italy, a global ranking of fine Italian dining, has dropped its list, and a Canadian spot has nabbed the position of second-best Italian restaurant in the world.

Don Alfonso 1890, located at 19 Toronto Street in (you guessed it) Toronto, Ontario, has earned the runner-up position, behind only Passerini in Paris, France, and ahead of Tokyo’s Heinz Beck which landed third place.

Cioppino’s Mediterrenean Grill & Enotica, of Vancouver’s Yaletown, also made the list’s 32nd place spot.

“It is an honour to be recognized on a global stage. I want to congratulate 3-star Michelin Chef Alfonso Iaccarino and the entire team at Don Alfonso 1890 Toronto for receiving such an incredible international honour,” said Nick Di Donato, president and CEO of Liberty Entertainment Group, which oversees the restaurant, in a statment.

“We look forward to continuing to provide exceptional dining experiences and keeping Toronto’s culinary scene at the front and center of the global stage.”

With a menu that offers the classic Italian dishes you know and love (think perfectly-done pasta), plus a selection of contemporary eats including ice creamed eel and bison in rustic bread crust, Don Alfonso is a must-go for Torontonians and visitors to the city alike.

So the next time you’re roaming the city’s downtown core, trying to decide where to grab a bite, consider checking the second-best Italian eatery on the globe off your list.
